Cohere, a Toronto, Canada-based provider of an AI platform for the enterprise, raised $270M in Series C funding.

The round was led by Inovia Capital with participation from NVIDIA, Oracle, Salesforce Ventures, DTCP, Mirae Asset, Schroders Capital, SentinelOne, Thomvest Ventures, and returning investor Index Ventures. 

The company intends to use the funds to consolidate its position across the enterprise sector.

Led by CEO Aidan Gomez, Cohere provides an AI platform that is designed for enterprises, offering data-secure deployment options in companies’ existing cloud environments, customization, andcustomer support. This includes an ecosystem of consulting and system integrator partners to help enterprises at any stage in their AI journey. Its platform is cloud-agnostic, accessible through API as a managed service, and can be deployed on virtual private cloud (VPC) or on-site to meet companies where their data is, offering flexibility and control. 

Cohere already has a global presence with strong European and German ties. Martin Kon, President & COO, is German and British in addition to American andCanadian and started his career working in Germany. CEO Aidan Gomez is Spanish and British in addition to Canadian. Nils Reimers, Director of Machine Learning and the creator of the sentence transformer (SBERT), leads semantic search at Cohere based out of Darmstadt. The company Cohere launched its London-based office in November 2022, led by Chief Scientist Phil Blunsom, who founded and led Deepmind’s language team before joining Cohere.
